What features make PreSonus Studio One 3 Professional 3.5 a must have?
What makes Studio One 3 Professional special is not just the features but the way the features are implemented and the workflow that results. Its fast drag-and-drop interface; sophisticated, searchable browser; and smart features that combine what would be multiple steps in other DAWs enable you to work very quickly. The technology never gets in the way of your creativity. The basics are intuitive for anyone who has used a DAW, so switching is easy.
Studio One also is part of a larger, integrated ecosystem of networked products, including Studio One Remote, which provides wireless control of Studio One for iOS and Android; Notion notation software, which works in tandem with Studio One; Capture for iPad, which wirelessly transfers recordings to Studio One; and integration with our digital mixers and some of our newer audio interfaces.
Of course, Studio One has innovative features like Scratch Pads that keep your work intact while you experiment on new ideas and create alternate versions of songs, such as radio edits and remixes. With Extended FX Chains, you can route audio effects in serial, in parallel, by channel, or by frequency bands, all via drag-and-drop. Multi Instruments let you stack multiple synths and Instruments (as layers or key splits) on a single Instrument Track and record, edit, and play them like a single instrument. And Studio One has unique technologies such as Mix Engine FX.
That’s without even getting into long-time Studio One Professional features, such as the Projec page (mastering suite), the specially integrated version of Melodyne, and the ability to open as many songs as you want simultaneously, all of which many users consider a must-have.
Talk to us about Fat Channel XT, what is it?
Fat Channel XT is a signal-processing plug-in that comes with Studio One 3.5 and later. Fat Channel XT is bit-for-bit identical to the Fat Channel in PreSonus StudioLive Series III mixers and offers the same routing and processing capabilities—input or output delay, highpass filter, gate, compressor, limiter, and fully parametric EQ on all channels and buses—including the alternative vintage compressor and EQ models. You can get additional vintage models in the PreSonus Shop. StudioLive Series III users can save audio recordings and complete StudioLive mix scenes, including Fat Channel settings, in PreSonus Capture recording software, then transfer both audio session and mix scene to Studio One. Thanks to the Fat Channel XT plug-in, the mix and scene will sound the same in Studio One as when recorded from the mixer.
What are some of the most important updated features?
PreSonus Studio One® 3.5 includes 60 new features and enhancements, including several of the most requested new features from the Studio One user community. Studio One 3.5 introduces a completely revised Project page for mastering, no-holds-barred Mixer Undo functionality, and a powerful new, optimized, native, low-latency audio engine for unrivaled near-zero latency audio and virtual instrument monitoring with high-speed audio interfaces, such as the new PreSonus Quantum Thunderbolt interface. We’ve also implemented a wealth of powerful workflow improvements, including extended Notion data-transfer options and the new Fat Channel XT plug-in for mix compatibility with the PreSonus StudioLive® Series III console/recorders.
