GRENOBLE, FRANCE: Musikmesse 2013 sees music software and hardware company Arturia announcing a major update to its iMini authentic recreation of the all-time classic Minimoog monosynth for Apple’s all-conquering iPad…

Arturia broadened its appeal in February 2013 by introducing iMini to transform any iPad mini, iPad 2, or iPad with Retina display into the ultimate classic analogue synth emulation! This timely musical move into iOS portability was an overnight success since iMini is based on the TAE® (True Analog Emulation) synthesis technology found in Arturia’s award-winning Mini V soft synth, meticulously modelling the distinctive tones and analogue nuances of R.A. Moog’s legendary Seventies-vintage Minimoog Model D monosynth in true 21st Century style — with added polyphony and many more modern-day features besides. But never happy to rest on its laurels, Arturia always strives to be the best at what it does, and has worked with diligent development partner Retronyms to make iMini better than ever via Version 1.1 with a number of notable bug fixes, audible additions, and clear-cut improvements included in this major update.

First and foremost, many iMini users called for Audiobus support and Arturia has responded swiftly. Now iMini can connect to any Audiobus-compatible iOS app with all the benefits that this inter-app routing platform brings into play. Indeed, playing iMini live into a looper or recording app, for example, makes for a much more satisfying and interactive iOS musical experience.

Meanwhile, welcome background audio advances mean that iMini is always live, yet will still respond to MIDI and be able to run its arpeggiator when working as a background app. And on that very note, whenever iMini is making no sound itself its CPU usage drops dramatically — another neat touch that helps keep things running smoothly when running multiple music apps.

Added external audio input support enables iMini Version 1.1 users to employ the EXTERNAL input knob to process the iPad’s built- in microphone input through iMini’s wide-ranging CHORUS and accurate ANALOG DELAY effects models — and also that all- important 24dB per octave fabled filter emulation, of course!

Moving onwards and upwards, expanded MIDI support lets those up-to-date iMini users pick and choose from multiple sources; moreover, inter-app MIDI support — which establishes MIDI messages that enable two iOS devices to identify and enumerate each other — makes it much easier for cool controller apps like Audanika’s SoundPrism Pro advanced MIDI controller for iOS to individually control multiple iMini instances while running in the background on the same iPad, for instance. Let’s talk, in other words!

With all this talk of added support, it’s good to know that Arturia will make a donation to The Bob Moog Foundation for every iMini sold in recognition of the groundbreaking instrument to which it owes its very existence. In turn, this supports the dream of building the MoogseumTM (Bob Moog Museum), the convergence of The Bob Moog Foundation’s goals of inspiring and educating people through electronic music.

Today, then, there’s really no excuse for not taking that history-making Minimoog sound anywhere anytime with iMini — all the more so with all that improved interactivity, thanks to the major Version 1.1 update. So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Apple’s App Store and start digital downloading… right here, right now!
