Unboxing The Pioneer DJ Toraiz SP-16 & Toraiz AS-1

The FEDEX delivery guy dropped off a box from Pioneer DJ yesterday. Inside was both the Pioneer DJ Toraiz SP-16 stand alone drum machine sampler and the Toraiz AS-1 desktop synth.

Both, the Toraiz SP-16 and Toraiz AS-1, are collaborations between Pioneer DJ and Dave Smith Instruments. The SP-16 sampler sports Dave Smith’s fully analog filter. Meanwhile the AS-1 is, in my eyes, lives as the modern-day take on the classic Pro One synth in desktop form.

For those that may not be familiar, see below for a bit more detail on the Toraiz SP-16 and Toraiz AS-1. Also, stay tuned for full reviews.

Toraiz SP-16

“The TORAIZ SP-16 sampler and step sequencer is the first in our line-up of music production tools for DJs and producers. We’ve partnered with the legendary synth creator Dave Smith to add his Prophet-6 analogue filters, so you can give your creations a rich, analogue warmth and presence.”

Toraiz AS-1

“The TORAIZ AS-1 is driven by a fully programmable, true analogue synthesis engine based on the discrete analogue circuitry in Dave Smith Instruments’ Prophet-6 synthesizer. It also inherits 7 on-board effects from the Prophet-6 synth as well as a brand new digital distortion.”

Stay tuned for the full reviews of both units. If you have questions about either unit, leave comments below and I’ll try to answer them in the review.
