Guitar Wing: Wireless Control Surface for Guitar and Bass
LIVID gives your Guitar WINGS with New KickStarter Campaign for their latest product, a wireless control surface for Guitar and Bass called Guitar Wing.
I met with Jay Smith (Livid Instruments | Founder – CEO) and musician/designer Moldover (@moldover) during NAMM at a secret undisclosed location (I know… real 007 Musician type stuff) to discuss the BASE and Guitar Wing. Although, as a beat maker I was obviously interested in the BASE, the fact remained that I’d known of BASE for a while. The Tech in me couldn’t help but to be taken a bit by the Guitar Wing. I am obviously no Guitar player but I love the idea of taking an old tried and true guitar and introducing it to and integrating it with new technology.
Livid describes it as
“The Guitar Wing™ from Livid Instruments is an expressive control surface that gives guitar and bass players wireless control over the functions of their favorite software plug-ins, DAWs, iOS apps, MIDI effects units, and even lighting and visual platforms.”
Guitar Wing attaches / clips on to your favorite guitar in a very non destructive way. My first question was does your existing guitar need to be modded and how does that work for guys with classics that hold sentimental value? The good news was obviously that Guitar Wing is nondestructive and leaves no marks, rashes and bruises on the players guitar or bass. Well, that opens up a ton of possibilities.

So what is it compatible with in terms of existing software?
As a class compliant MIDI device, the Guitar Wing works with almost any audio software, iOS application, VST Plugin and more. Setting up the connection is easy, and with colorful LED feedback, you’ll know what’s going on without having to look at your computer screen.
There is also a WingFX program
WingFX is a software plugin that acts a wireless digital effects rack for Guitar Wing. With several effects designed for optimal use with Guitar Wing’s innovative controls, you’ll shape your sound in ways you never thought possible.
