THERAPSID - SID synth box by Twisted Electrons

The good folks over at Twisted Electrons recently released the TherapSID synth with an iPad helper app. Shout out to my guy Alkex (peep the interview from NAMM 2013) for continuing to drop dope boxes and apps. Twisted Electrons is one to watch.

Named after a vicious dinosaur, its sound is no less aggressive. TherapSid has evolved to create roaring noises that will cut through your mix like razor-sharp claws through a mammoth steak. So why do you need another synth, since they already take 90% of the space in your room and your girlfriend keeps complaining about it?

Well, what sets TherapSid apart from other SID based synths is its focus on control. Instead of getting confused by lcds and damaging your eyesight trying to read tiny sub menu fonts, this instrument features no less than 35 knobs and 31 buttons to give you full power over your sound.

However, TherapSid also has it’s own iPad app allowing touchscreen control.

UPDATE (09/16/2014) – I caught up with my guy Alkex and asked one of the burning questions about the iPad app and how it connects to the TherapSID etc. Here is what Alkex had to say…

There are several ways you can do it. It uses midi from the ipad app. The ipad can use a midi interface via camera connection usb or much simpler you can send the midi via wifi to your daw, then forward that to the synth. Its better that way as you will want a midi keyboard to play the notes. The app is used to configure it’s modulator.

I m going to make a series of demo videos in the next days to make it clear as I can imagine it all sounds more complex than it needs to be!
