5 Things About MPC X – USB

I’ve decided to launch a new series of vlog videos called “5 Things About MPC X”. The point here is to delve into areas of interest on the MPC X that perhaps haven’t been explored just yet. At very least this series on the MPC X could serve as a point of reference before and after one acquires the MPC X.

In this edition of “5 Things About MPC X” I’ll be focusing on the USB connection on the back of the MPC X. Many may not know that you can use this for things like charging your phone or enabling bluetooth (given the proper devices). So, I’ll explore a few possibilities.

FYI… these things also apply to the MPC Live.

The 5 things for the episode are

  1. USB Qwerty Keyboard. In both standalone and controller mode the MPC X‘s USB connections can enable the use of a standard qwerty typing keyboard. This makes it easy for saving and renaming projects, programs, and samples etc.
  2. USB Hard Drives and Flash Drives.  In both standalone and controller mode the MPC X‘s USB connections can enable the use of an external storage device. No real set up or anything. Just plug it in and it shows up in the browser for you to use as you please.
  3. USB LED Light. In both standalone and controller mode the MPC X‘s USB connections can enable the use of a USB LED Light. These are typically used by DJs and performing artists. I use one with my modular rig. In this case, it’s easy enough to just plug it in and “BOOM!”… let there be light. I picked this up on Amazon but you can find them on Sweetwater, Musician’s Friend or Guitar Center.
  4. USB keyboard Controller.  In both standalone and controller mode the MPC X‘s USB connections can enable the use of a USB keyboard controller. If you prefer keys over pads to work out your melodies, go ahead and grab your favorite controller and plug it into the back of the MPC. There is no set up needed. MPC X sees it and you can start playing.
  5. Bluetooth over USB. In both standalone and controller mode the MPC X‘s USB connections can enable the use of a CME XKey Air with Widi Bud. This essentially gives your MPC X Bluetooth capabilities prior to it being officially available within the MPC X.
