Ever wondered what De La Soul would sound like over a never before heard Dilla beats? Well wonder no more. This evening De La shot out an email blast to all of their subscribers that announced the all Dilla produced classic De La joints called Smell The Da.I.S.Y. (Da Inner Soul of Yancy). Got it yet? Don’t sleep.

[UPDATE] So, I can’t stop won’t stop listening. One thing I noticed right off, as any astute Dilla fan/advocate would, is that not all of these beats are “never before heard.” The lyrics,  although classic De La Soul joints, are cleverly re-recorded with a bit more swag (kill me later for using that word) and in some instances more depth and flavor. Seems that these Dilla beats breathed new life into the Plugs. (Shout out to MaDukes! – so dope) I love how De La found a way via these Dilla joints to reimagine their classics. That’s so Jazz of them.

And I would be remiss if I did mention the Dilla x De La x Marvin Gaye joint. I dont know if I was the first to mention this on twitter a good while back (hate me now because I am taking credit for this), but I recall tweeting many times “I dream of collabs by Marvin Gaye and Dilla.” It even happens to be in the lyrics to a song I recorded a couple of years back. Energy in the universe is everything. But why would there need to be a Dilla x Marvin Gaye collab? Simply because, well, thats always struck me as a very unlikely but likely intergenerational, beautiful Detroit “soul hop” duo. Well, the Plugs made it a dream come true with the incredibly infectious “Marvin Jaye.” I’m sure you’ll love this as much as I do. Great job fellas.

But it doesn’t stop here bboys and bgirls, De La Soul is readying brand new music and new projects as they kick this new Daisy Age into full swing. New projects include Premiem Soul On The Rocks – Produced by DJ Premier & Pete Rock (EP) & You’re Welcome (LP). So stay tuned.
