Last year, BBoyTechReport posted up on an uber cool piece of music tech called INSTRUMENT 1. It’s made by an even cooler company called Artiphon. I ran into them at Winter NAMM 2013. When I saw the INSTRUMENT 1, I was totally taken by its finely crafted design. The INSTRUMENT 1 boasts a level of craftsmanship that rivals anything that you could name. Complete with finely finished wood, machined metal, touch sensitive fret board-ish neck and a slot for your iPhone, the INSTRUMENT 1 is as slick and functional as it is fly. With the iPhone in place, the Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 is completely transformed into a number of instruments ranging from guitar to violin. I believe we even saw them play various iOS synths with this fly super hero Axe like instrument. And that was just the beginning.
Check this demo video, so you can get a better idea of what it does. Not a hiphop track in the making… but you can certainly see how versatile the INSTRUMENT 1 is. It’s frickin’ limitless.
For the next stage of product development, Artiphon is putting the INSTRUMENT 1 in the hands of a diverse group of musicians. Artiphon is looking for beta testers with skills ranging from beginner to advanced, and styles ranging from traditional to experimental. If you have a passion for exploring new technology and being part of the development process, consider filling out the application.
If accepted into the beta tester program, you will be sent a pre-production INSTRUMENT 1 for a set period of time. Beta testers will participate in a series of surveys, user forums, and one-on-one interviews. Their input and feedback will be core to the process that brings Artiphon’s multi-instrument concept to the world. The first group of testers will be selected from the Nashville area, with national and international participants being added soon after.
