Audiobus SDK goes public. And the crowd goes wild. Audiobus is an app that accomplishes for iOS music apps what midi accomplished for hardware synths in the 70’s. Audiobus allows you to stream audio from any number of music apps or synth apps thru effects and then to audio recording software and other music apps loaded onto your iPad.

Up until now, Audiobus has been a closed sort of deal with only a choice list of music apps having been able to add Audiobus capability. It seems every day another app announced it was now Audiobus capable. If the app you love happens to be one of those choice apps it was an absolute high to find out that this was indeed the case. The Audiobus capability opens up a world of new possibilities in audio production on iOS devices.

So, it is nothing short of exciting to learn that the Audiobus SDK has gone public. Some may ask, what does this mean? Well, an SDK is a software development kit. Typically, software development kits are a set of tools used by software developers to build, improve and/or implement specific functionality in software.  OK, so what does that mean in relevant terms to Audiobus? It means, iOS musicians no longer have to wish an extremely busy Audiobus team would grant the all coveted “Audiobus Compatible” status to each app themselves. With the SDK available to the public, your favorite app no longer has to wait at the gate or even take a number. App developer of iOS music apps can now simply download the SDK and implement it themselves in their own app on their own time-table. Which basically means, every iOS music app worth its weight in stacks of iPads will now have Audiobus (I’m looking at you iMini). This is huge.

As announced on the Audiobus blog

With three months and 100+ compatible apps since we launched Audiobus, we’re pleased to announce that today we are making the Audiobus SDK public.
